CLUB OBJECTIVES:

CODE OF ETHICS

This Code is established as a Standard of Conduct, to be followed by all members of the Papillon Club of Tulsa, in the normal course of breeding, selling and the exhibiting of purebred dogs.

I. All members shall familiarize themselves with the American Kennel Club standard for the Papillon, and breed dogs and bitches of characteristic type, of sound structure and temperament. Efforts should be directed to producing animals that do not have any serious hereditary defects. Dogs with serious faulty temperament or with congenital unsoundness (including Patellar Luxation, Malocclusion, Eye Abnormalities, Undescended Testicles, etc.) should not be used for breeding. Members shall openly and frankly disclose all genetic problems known to occur in their Papillons and their offspring. Such disclosures shall be made to the Papillon Club of America database and to any prospective buyers or breeding interests.

2. Members shall not sell Papillons to pet shops/puppy mills either outright or on consignment. Papillons shall not be offered for auctions, raffles, etc. Members shall not sell to persons whose known or suspected intention is to resell.

3. All puppies and adult dogs must be maintained in a clean and healthy environment.

4. All dogs sold shall be in good condition, free of communicable diseases with appropriate inoculations. Instructions on proper care, grooming, and feeding should be provided.

5. Any member hearing of a Papillon in need of relocation shall make themselves active/available to assist with said relocation.

6. Members shall be familiar with American Kennel Club rules concerning record keeping, registration, sale and transfer of dogs, and abide by these rules.

7. Advertising should be factual. It should not be worded to attract undesirable buyers, or to encourage raising dogs for profit. Young puppies should not be described as show and/or breeding stock.

8. Good sportsmanship is expected of all members, in and out of the show ring. No member should malign another, either his person or his dogs. Members should not exhibit "filler" dogs, which they know to be unworthy of championship, nor should they indulge in the practice of entering "Kennel Majors".
